Professional Information About Me! I grew up in Great Meadows, New Jersey and attended East Stroudsburg University to earn my undergraduate degree. I received a dual major at ESU in health and physical education. During college I worked at Picatinny Arsenal, for the Department of Defense, where I was a youth service counselor and now continue to work as their Sports Specialist on weekends and in the summer. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's in Education with a specialization in Integrating Technology into the Classroom at Walden University. I plan to graduate from Walden in September of 2009. Personal Information About Me! I currently live in Stanhope, New Jersey. In my leisure time I enjoy playing sports and engaging in other physical activities. During the summer I enjoy hiking, running, and spending time at the beach with friends and family. In the winter, I love to ski, snowtube, and snowmobile whenever possible. My Philosophy about Teaching My philosophy of teaching is similar to a constructivist view on education. I believe that every student can learn based on his or her prior knowledge and that a teacher is an inspiring facilitator rather than a dictator. What is taught in the health classroom is often based on real-life scenarios and no two students come from the same background, thus making it impractical to have a generic lesson on a topic such as drugs or nutrition. I believe that using a constructivist model and creating cognitive dissidence is best for students and will lead them to become lifelong learners. |
